'Roo’s off too’: United fans hit with a horrific double-whammy

MANCHESTER United fans were hit with a horrific double-whammy last night after it was revealed Wayne Rooney had suggested that he wanted to leave the club just two weeks ago.
The £30 million striker spoke to the Old Trafford hierarchy and said “the time might be right to move on” and join a new club.
Rooney, 27, did not put in an official transfer request.
Last night a highly-placed Old Trafford source said: “He was told ‘You are not for sale’.
“The timing of this is extremely unfortunate because we are hoping to announce a new manager in the next 36 hours — and that man may have managed Rooney in the past.”
Rumours Roo could leave the club emerged earlier this year when French giants Paris St Germain were believed to be sniffing around the striker.
But Alex Ferguson rejected claims that the England hitman would leave any time soon.
Rooney and David Moyes — tipped to be new manager — endured a very bitter public spat after the Everton boss sued his former player over claims in his autobiography.
However, the dispute was later settled out of court and Moyes has since praised the striker for his more “mature” attitude. Last night a Manchester United spokesman insisted: “Wayne Rooney is not for sale.”
