Ayr United's promotion push has fizzled out but manager Mark Roberts is looking for a strong performance against Arbroath, despite having Adam Hunter and Chris Smith suspended.

The Honest Men are also missing Michael McGowan and Martyn Campbell due to knee injuries, while ankle problems keep David Sinclair and John Robertson sidelined.

Roberts has recalled Jackson Longridge and Darren Brownlie.

Roberts said: "Our biggest problem has been inconsistency, but when we play well we are a good side. It has been a frustrating season but we can end it on a high.

"Arbroath still have something to play for but I want us to end our season at home with a win. Some players will be playing for new deals and hopefully that will see them play to a high standard."

Arbroath have control of the final play-off berth and want to keep it that way by defeating Ayr, and Colin Hamilton is available after suspension to help.

The Gayfield side are without injured goalkeeper Scott Morrison (finger) as well as Mark Baxter (foot), Stuart Malcolm (shin) and Brian Kerr (knee).

Player-manager Paul Sheerin said: "We are a point ahead so everything is in our own hands and we want to make sure that it stays that way.

"We had to put in a gritty performance against Stranraer last week to win 1-0 and it may well be that we have to do the same in this one.

"Ayr have good players who will be out to make up for a disappointing season, so we are well warned."
