Manchester United line up loan move for Powell

Sir Alex Ferguson is keen for the former Crewe star to get a season of first-team football under his belt next term, with Wigan a potential destination for the 18-year-old
Manchester United are considering sending Nick Powell out on a season-long loan next term, Goal.com understands.
The 18-year-old has made only two starts for the Premier League leaders since his summer move from Crewe, and Sir Alex Ferguson is keen for him to gain some more first-team football in 2013-14.
Wigan and Bolton have both been mooted as potential destinations for Powell by United officials, with the club ideally wanting the youngster to continue his development at a side in the north west.
Powell, who spearheaded Crewe's promotion to League One last season, has impressed United coaches in his short spell at the club and has shone in the reserve team.
Ferguson has personally watched the youngster in action in recent months, and is keen to give him game time at a more competitive level next season to aid his speedy development.
United were pleased with Tom Cleverley's loan spell at Wigan in 2010-11 and hope a similar move for Powell will see him return to Old Trafford a more physical player with more experience under his belt.
The Latics, who currently have Chilean attacker Angelo Henriquez on loan from United, are likely to lead the list of candidates again, although any of the three clubs promoted from the Championship could also be approached.
The pace of Premier League is seen as the ideal environment for Powell to continue his development, and as such a move to a Football League side is not favoured, although it would be considered if no top-flight suitors come forward.
