Gomez: I will never be as good as Messi

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has downplayed comparisons between himself and Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
Gomez scored four goals for Bayern in their Champions League tie against Swiss side FC Basel, sending his team through to the quarter-finals. The German's tally was one shy of Messi's record-breaking five against Bayer Leverkusen, leading many to draw comparisons between Gomez and the Argentinean.
However, the Bayern striker told uefa.com that such comparisons are unfounded, as he believes his talent could never be on par with that of Messi's.
"I'll never be as good as Messi and I'd never try to be, he's a completely different player to me. I don't see him as a peer. I see him as the ultimate footballer." Gomez said.
With his team's place in the last eight of the Champions League secure, Gomez will take the field in Bayern's next Bundesliga match against Hertha Berlin this weekend.
