Sweeping changes in Costa Rica squad

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP)—Costa Rica has announced a vastly changed squad for the friendlies against Peru and El Salvador in October.
Just five players have been retained from the side’s previous matches against Panama and Jamaica in the list of 19 announced by the Costa Rican football federation on Thursday.
The list contains 14 domestic-based players and five from foreign clubs.
The changes could reflect the influence of Costa Rica’s new coach Ricardo La Volpe, who officially starts work on Nov. 1, but is already in the country to prepare for the job.
The main absentee from the list is Bryan Ruiz, who plays with FC Twente in the Netherlands, though foreign-based players Michael Barrantes, Bryan Oviedo, Dario Delgado, Cristian Bolanos and Pablo Herrera are all included.
