Ferdinand admitted that United's top four chance were over

Arsenal fans have goaded Rio Ferdinand after the pundit ‘lost it’ on BT Sport.

The former Manchester United defender, 43, witnessed his former side lose 3-1 to the Gunners. But after the game, Ferdinand said that he felt United should have been awarded a penalty for when the ball hit Cedric Soares’ hands inside the box as he was on all fours. The incident was checked by VAR and nothing was given.

“The referee and VAR got more decisions wrong than they did right,” Ferdinand groaned. But Arsenal fans enjoyed seeing the Red Devils legend being so frustrated.

One joked online: “Rio Ferdinand wipe your tears man.”

Another said: “Rio was practically crying in the studio. Love to see it.”

A third wrote: “Ferdinand is so salty when Utd loose. Embarrassing himself now.”

A last one said: “Rio Ferdinand must be the only human being that’s ever managed to talk out of the side of his mouth & his arsehole at the same time. Fair play.”

United’s top-four chances look practically over after Mikel Arteta’s side earned all three points at the Emirates Stadium.

Nuno Tavares opened the scoring for the home side before Bukayo Saka doubled Arsenal’s lead. Cristiano Ronaldo then pulled one back with a neat first-time hit, but United failed to capitalise on their momentum as Bruno Fernades’ penalty hit the post.

"First of all, credit to Arsenal. They got the job done, by no means a top performance today but they got what is needed at this point of the season, and that is three points” Ferdinand said. “Manchester United, they had an opportunity to get back in this game, they had chances, obviously the penalty. They were there for the taking Arsenal, but Manchester United did not smell blood and big moments like those they need to learn to take. Being brutally honest, (Ralf) Rangnick has come in and it has got worse."

Ferdinand then conceded, with Arsenal now in fourth spot with a game less and six points more, that United’s hopes of a top-four were now over. He said: "Yeah, that is it for the top four. Manchester United have absolutely no chance, it’s done."
