Manchester City hammered Sporting 5-0 to all but secure their passage to the Champions League quarter-finals, as Cristiano Ronaldo's mother watched on from the stands
Cristiano Ronaldo's mum was in attendance as Manchester City thrashed Sporting 5-0 in the first-leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie on Tuesday night.
Pep Guardiola's side all but booked their place in the quarter-finals as goals from Riyad Mahrez, Bernarndo Silva, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling sealed an emphatic victory.
Ronaldo's mother, who is often very outspoken on her son's behalf, wouldn't have enjoyed watching her beloved Sporting get so comprehensively hammered, but news of Cristiano finally breaking his Manchester United goal drought against Brighton this evening probably would've cheered her up.
The family have been Sporting fans ever since Ronaldo joined the club's youth ranks in 1997 when he was just 12-years-old.

Despite the fact that he's since gone on to play for three other clubs, the Ronaldos have always held a soft spot for the club where it all began.
The Portugal international was close to joining City last summer, but opted instead to return to Old Trafford after 12 years away.
Recent reports claim Ronaldo has become disillusioned with life at United amid a run of inconsistent form for himself and the team and there are rumours he may be looking to cut his two-year contract short at the end of the season.

Despite netting 15 goals in 27 matches so far this season, Ronaldo has reportedly been telling close friends that he feels his age is beginning to catch up with him, and while he may have finally ended his goal drought on Tuesday, some fans are starting to think the same.
His open goal miss against Southampton on Saturday received widespread ridicule on social media, as supporters joked the 37-year-old was 'finished' at the top.
