Xavi Hernandez.
Following the retirement of Sergio Aguero, Barcelona have lost an attacking option in a position where they were already struggling.
Xavi Hernandez now faces the January transfer window as an opportunity to boost his squad and bring in a proven finisher.
Among the first names to be linked were Premier League duo Ferran Torres and Christian Pulisic, with the Spaniard even willing to take a pay cut to join the club.
The American has struggled to earn a starting role at Chelsea this season and, if he can stay clear of injuries, could find that easier at Barcelona should he join on loan.
There are also several other names who could join on permanent transfers.
Erling Haaland is one of the most exciting options, though there is much competition, a high asking price and Borussia Dortmund have already heard from several clubs with an interest.
An alternative would be Edinson Cavani, whose role at Manchester United is unclear and his future is also up in the air.
Another prospect
Another exciting young option is 21-year-old Julian Alvarez from River Plate, who has recorded 22 goals and 14 assists with the Argentinian side, though Barcelona prefer a proven option.
