Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly planning to unveil Lionel Messi as their latest signing in a “mega event” at the iconic Eiffel Tower.

Messi departed Barcelona on Thursday after his new contract failed to clear the salary cap rules in La Liga, with the Argentine a free agent for the first time in his career.

The 34-year-old won an astonishing 34 trophies during his time with the Catalan giants, but he will not depart the Nou Camp.

Ligue 1 giants PSG appear to be in pole position to complete the stunning deal to bring Messi to the Parc Des Princes, with the move expected to be confirmed over the weekend.

Messi has become one of football’s most recognisable stars during his time with Barcelona, with Argentine responsible for a sizable chunk of the club’s commercial revenue.

He is understood to be signing a two-year deal with Mauricio Pochettino’s side, which will see play his club football outside of Spain for the first time.

The French giants are reportedly planning a suitably sizeable unveiling to match Messi’s standing in the sport.

According to Argentine journalist Veronica Brunati, the announcement will take place on Tuesday at one of the French capital’s most iconic landmarks.

Messi will be revealed as PSG’s latest superstar in what Brunati describes as a “mega event” at the Eiffel Tower.

It is said that there will be a “special decoration” for his arrival, with Messi becoming the sixth new face at the Parc Des Princes.

Pochettino and sporting director Leonardo are assembling a squad packed with superstar talent.

This summer, they signed Euro 2020 winner Ginaluigi Donnarumma, fullback Achraf Hakimi, Porto’s Danilo Pereria, Premier League champions Georginio Wijnaldum and four-time Champions League winner Sergio Ramos.

That adds to a squad already containing arguably Europe’s best young player Kylian Mbappe and Messi’s former team-mate at Barca, Neymar.
