Liverpool are being linked with Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.
The Mirror says the Reds are facing the prospect of being without Virgil van Dijk for the vast majority of the season, if not the whole campaign, and although the understudies for the Dutchman have all impressed to varying degrees, they are likely to be on the lookout for a top quality central defender in January.
Joe Gomez has excelled since becoming the senior man in the back line, with midfielder Fabinho, unheralded Nat Phillips and teenager Rhys Williams all doing well when called upon to play alongside him.
Joel Matip is set to return from injury to face Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, but the Cameroonian's injury record can't often be relied upon.
With all of that in mind, Jurgen Klopp has seemingly turned his attentions to the Inter Milan defender Skriniar, who was targeted by Spurs boss Jose Mourinho before the closure of the summer transfer window.
ESPN have reported details that Spurs held "lengthy negotiations" with Inter in a bid to sign the defender, who came with an lofty price tag of around €60million.
