Could Higuain join Athletic Club?

Gonzalo Higuain's current contract with Juventus finishes at the end of the 2019/20 campaign and will likely be looking for a new team, yet a surprise club to be linked with the Argentine is Athletic Club.
The Basque side are renowned for fielding and signing players only from their region, so a move for the former Real Madrid man would appear absurd at first glance.
Yet Higuain has ancestry rooting back to the region, as the great-grandson of a Basque who emigrated to Argentina.
Higuain himself is a dual Argentine and French national as he was born in Brest while his father, Jorge, had a spell with Stade Brestois in the late 1980s.
Jorge Higuain once spoke about his family's Basque roots when his oldest son Federico played for Real Sociedad.
"My grandfather was of Basque-French origin," Jorge Higuain stated fifteen years ago.
"My father always told me that my grandfather had taught him that the Basques are neither Spanish nor French, only Basque."
