Whitehall double adds to Wrexham’s woes

Danny Whitehall scored twice as Maidenhead climbed away from the National League relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers Wrexham.
Only two points separated the sides heading into Saturday’s fixture, but Whitehall’s double alleviated the Magpies’ concerns while sending the Welsh club into the new year in the bottom four.
The forward opened the scoring after 23 minutes when he turned in a low cross.
He then pounced on a mistake by Rob Lainton to double Maidenhead’s lead eight minutes into the second half, with the goalkeeper having sent a goal-kick straight to Whitehall, who now has 11 goals for the campaign.
The result represented a first clean sheet for Maidenhead since their 1-0 win against Solihull in October.
