McShane on target as Rochdale see off Wrexham

Paul McShane netted the winner as Rochdale toiled for a 1-0 victory in their FA Cup first-round replay against Wrexham at the Crown Oil Arena.
McShane’s 11th-minute goal proved the difference between the teams. The former Republic of Ireland international headed firmly into the roof of the net after Rekeil Pyke had flicked Aaron Morley’s corner kick into his path.
Wrexham’s Rob Lainton was called into action after 25 minutes, diving full stretch to his right to palm away Matt Done’s strike.
But that was a rare flash of inspiration in what was a tepid opening half hour, Dale content to keep possession and tempt the Dragons out of shape.
Wrexham briefly sprang into life when Luke Summerfield had their best effort of the half, a well-struck drive from 25 yards which Robert Sanchez pushed up and over his crossbar.
Shaun Pearson wasted a golden opportunity to draw the Dragons level when the ball ran kindly for him in the area, the Wrexham defender presented with a clear view of goal only to slice a shot wide.
