Burton ease past Salford in FA Cup replay

Burton eased their way into the second round of the FA Cup courtesy of a 4-1 victory over League Two side Salford in Tuesday night’s replay.
After Salford’s Ibou Touray cancelled out Lucas Akins’ 42nd minute
near post finish seven minutes into the second half, the home side reasserted their authority with goals from David Templeton, John Brayford and Oliver Sarkic.
The win means Albion have set up a tie with another League Two side, Oldham, in the next round.
Burton had been good value for their lead and when Templeton lashed in an unerring shot after good work from Scott Fraser.
Nigel Clough’s men had something to defend and build on when Brayford bundled the ball over the line in the 70th minute having initially headed goalwards.
Sarkic added a fourth after breaking onto Akins’ through ball before cutting inside and curling a shot beyond Chris Neal into the far corner of the net.
It was Albion’s first FA Cup victory since December 2013 when, ironically, they beat Graham Alexander’s Fleetwood in a second-round replay.
