Salford battle back to earn point at home to Scunthorpe

Salford came from behind to grab a point against Scunthorpe as on-loan Iron defender Cameron Burgess netted against his parent club to secure a 1-1 draw at the Peninsula Stadium.
Kevin Van Veen had given the visitors a 34th-minute lead but Salford hit back on the stroke of half-time through Burgess, who is on a season-long loan from Scunthorpe.
Scunthorpe enjoyed the better of the early stages, with Van Veen’s effort superbly saved by Salford goalkeeper Mark Howard.
The visitors went in front when Jamie Ward found Van Veen, who switched the ball on to his left foot inside the area and smashed it past Howard to record his sixth goal of the season.
Salford levelled matters at the end of the first half when Burgess met Ibou Touray’s deep cross to head the ball beyond Scunthorpe goalkeeper Rory Watson.
The home side provided more attacking prowess in the second half, with Adam Rooney going agonisingly close to sealing the points for Salford.
Third-from-bottom Scunthorpe’s best chance came when Van Veen found the ball on the edge of the box, but the Dutch striker sent his shot wide.
