Forest Green leave it late to sink Morecambe

Two late goals gave Forest Green a 2-0 victory over League Two strugglers Morecambe at the Globe Arena.
A tight first half saw few chances, with Morecambe going closest to opening the scoring when top-scorer Lewis Alessandra beat goalkeeper Joe Wollacott to a poor back pass but saw his effort cleared off the line by Liam Kitching.
A goal from substitute Jack Aitchison 15 minutes from time proved the turning point as Mark Cooper’s side were finally rewarded for their attractive football.
The on-loan Celtic striker took advantage of a fine move that ended with Joseph Mills squaring the ball to him 12 yards out and his right-footed shot beat Barry Roche after taking a wicked deflection through a crowd of Morecambe bodies.
The Shrimps almost hit back immediately, with Steven Old having a glorious chance to level the scores five minutes from time when the ball fell to him six yards out but blazing his effort over the bar.
To add to Morecambe’s misery Alessandra was sent off in the 90th minute for a soft second yellow card after a tackle on Aaron Collins and the visitors sealed victory, Liam Shepherd drilling home a second goal from the right-hand side of the area after a swift counter-attack.
