Bolger sees red as Lincoln and Shrewsbury play out goalless stalemate

Cian Bolger was shown a straight red card as Lincoln and Shrewsbury played out a dour goalless draw at Sincil Bank.
The Imps centre-back was sent off with 10 minutes to go for a foul on Shrews substitute Shaun Whalley near the halfway line, seemingly dismissed for denying a goalscoring opportunity.
The result was a fair reflection of a game which lacked goalmouth action and incident.
The Imps edged the first half-an-hour with Bruno Andrade, Michael O’Connor and Jorge Grant all off target with efforts.
Shrewsbury ended the half well with Jason Cummings firing high and wide just before the break.
In the second half, the visitors had the first meaningful shot on target when Sean Goss’ free-kick was beaten away by Josh Vickers.
At the other end, Lincoln’s top scorer, Tyler Walker, had a goal ruled out for offside after John Akinde’s shot had been saved by Max O’Leary.
Town were given a boost in the closing stages when Bolger saw red and they piled on the pressure in search of a late winner, but Vickers kept them at bay with a couple of excellent saves.
