Mullin penalty earns Tranmere a point

An 85th-minute penalty from substitute Paul Mullin saw Tranmere come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Southend.
After being upended by Nathan Ralph in the box, Mullin stepped up and confidently smashed home from the penalty spot.
Southend struck early when Tom Hopper – on his first start in almost a year – clipped an effort neatly over keeper Scott Davies after meeting Simon Cox’s through-ball.
It should have been two when an unmarked Tim Dieng planted a header wide from six yards out.
Cox then lifted a shot onto the roof of the net after pouncing following a handling error by Davies.
Rovers’ almost drew level just before the break when Corey Blackett-Taylor swept an angled strike just over the top from 15 yards.
After the restart Davies produced a super save to keep out Isaac Hutchinson’s powerful drive.
Rovers responded with Neil Danns seeing a curling shot cleared off the line by Joe Shaughnessy, and were eventually rewarded following a dominant final 20 minutes.
