Tottenham are interested in Real Madrid star Isco as Christian Eriksen’s stay in north London nears the end.
Tottenham could replace Christian Eriksen with Isco in the January transfer window.
Eriksen has eight months remaining on his Tottenham deal and has snubbed offers of improved terms.
The playmaker expressed a desire to leave in the summer but no clubs came in with any concrete offers.
Mauricio Pochettino has become frustrated with his “distracted” squad - Eriksen is one of four players whose contract expires in June - and is open to offloading the player in January.
Ideally, Spurs would replace their most creative spark with another European-level talent and that may now happen.
Spanish media outlet ElDesmarque report that Isco is open to leaving Real Madrid in January and Tottenham are the front-runners to get his signature.
That deal hinges on Eriksen moving to the Bernabeu, though, which would likely instigate the switch.
Bayern Munich are also monitoring Isco closely.
Last week another Spanish publication, Marca, claimed that Real are in fact lining up an emergency bid for Eriksen in January.
Bernabeu chiefs are said to be laying the foundations for the chase, which is expected to be difficult with hard-nosed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
Zinedine Zidane still wants Paul Pogba to be his midfield lynchpin but Real’s board reckon Eriksen can flourish in the Spanish capital.
Isco has struggled to prove himself under Zidane and is largely a bench player, racking up just 104 minutes this season.
Zidane did not do much to extinguish speculation about Isco heading into the summer transfer window which just passed.
“Of course, Real Madrid have many players that can be sold, because they are of very high quality,” the French tactician said.
“Isco is an important player for this team and I like him but we will wait and see, players from Madrid are always linked to moves away.”
