Real Madrid hope that Mbappe can withstand PSG's pressure

Florentino Perez is obsessed with the idea of bringing Kylian Mbappe to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, with the Real Madrid president aware that time could be his favour.

Los Blancos are hoping to use the same strategy they did with Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois whereby they allow the players' contracts to run down with their existing clubs before buying them for a lower fee. Both Hazard and Courtois were entering the last year of their contracts when Madrid signed them.

The idea is the same with the French superstar, but it relies on the footballer withstanding the pressure that Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is already putting on him, aware that they must extend his contract as soon as possible if they do not want to be at a disadvantage in a fight with the other elite clubs in Europe.

Mbappe has a contract until June 30, 2022, so two and a half years remain, with Madrid of the belief that the situation could start to work in their favour from next summer.

From there, the player's market value would be unlikely to diminish until the summer of 2021, at which point he would have just one year left on his deal.

Aware that PSG are a tough nut to crack, a lot will come down to Mbappe's attitude: does he want to stay with the Parisians, his hometown club, or does he want a new adventure at Real Madrid or any of Europe's other elite clubs? In truth, though, there are very few clubs that can compete with Los Blancos for his signature.

Logically, the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus are those who could try and tempt Mbappe, but Madrid have been tracking the forward for years and have tried to bring him to the club before.

Mbappe will turn 21 on December 20, so clubs are not in too much of a hurry either. Real Madrid's main fear is whether he will be able to turn down the almost irresistible offer that PSG will almost certainly make.

This is why Real Madrid, who still dream of Mbappe, want him to withstand the pressure and to not succumb to the charm of his current club, but ultimately they must sit back and wait until the summer of 2021 before they are able to make their move.
