Stockport hold off late Hartlepool fightback
Posted Thursday, October 10, 2019 by PA
Early goals from Ashley Palmer and Tom Walker earned Stockport their first National League win in seven games over Hartlepool.
The home side struck early and looked to be cruising to victory until Nicke Kabamba’s late effort left them hanging on for a 2-1 win.
Palmer sidefooted home a deflected opener from a corner after five minutes, and Walker hit the post before extending Stockport’s lead on 21 minutes.
The visitors were fortunate not to fall further behind shortly before the break when a shot by Adam Thomas hit the bar and rebounded to safety.
Hartlepool got back into the match when Kabamba netted in the 86th minute after County keeper Ben Hinchliffe had parried Gavan Holohan’s initial strike.
But despite late chances the visitors could not quite repeat Saturday’s last-gasp heroics against Yeovil and saw their three-match unbeaten run come to an end.
