Mauricio Pochettino has suggested he could spend another five years at Tottenham after speculation about his future.

Mauricio Pochettino has said he wants to stay at Tottenham for five more years – even if people spend every one of them speculation about his future.

And in the more immediate time he has promised his players he will not be inflicting the video nasty of Tuesday’s 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich on them as, he says, “you won’t fix things by showing the players how bad they were”.

Certainly, though, his overall mood was very much that it is business as usual going into tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off at Brighton.

This comes despite boos on the final whistle at White Hart Lane and subsequent speculation Pochettino could soon move on to Real Madrid or Manchester United having taking Tottenham as far as he can.

“In five-and-a-half years we talk about my future in every single press conference,” the Argentinian said.

“We are still talking. I hope we are still talking about it here in five years’ time – it will mean I am still here.

“I am not worried. I am not happy with this type of result. But if you want to take in a negative way of course I am not going to change your opinion.

“I am trying to be honest and explain when we win, it’s easy.

“Everything is okay. When you don’t win you need to explain why we lose. When you don’t win it’s difficult to enjoy but we’re not going to create a drama.

“We find way to recover best feeling. You want to win more than lose. The players are the same, the fans the same. With all the energy we feel strong and keep working.”

Pochettino maintains that the first half-hour of the club’s record home defeat included some of the best football the team have played all season.

But he is not going to spend unnecessary times picking through the video analysis with his players.

“We don’t need to show nothing,” he said.

"Not one clip. They all know deep inside what happened. They have the same feeling as us.

“When the result is as painful as it was on Tuesday, you will not fix it by showing how good we were or how bad we were.

“Deep inside, the players are the most critical of themselves. Inside the dressing room they know better than anyone how they were.

“What we need is not to make bigger the problem but stay together. The only way to start to improve is to win games. If not it’s impossible.”
