Northampton hope to welcome back midfielder Alan McCormack at home to high-flying Newport in Sky Bet League Two.
McCormack has not featured since suffering a hamstring strain in the 1-0 defeat to Walsall on the opening weekend of the season.
But the Irishman has been in full training for more than a week, while left-back Joe Martin also hopes to proves his fitness.
Reece Hall-Johnson has also recovered from an unspecified problem which has kept him out for a month, and he could replace Michael Harriman at right-back.
The visitors will be without Ryan Inniss, who has received a five-match ban from the Football Association following his red card in an EFL Trophy match.
The 24-year-old, on loan from Crystal Palace, was sent off in the latter stages of Newport’s 5-4 defeat to West Ham Under-21s on September 4.
Kyle Howkins and Marvel Ekpiteta, both on the bench in last weekend’s win over Port Vale, will be hoping to start in the absence of Inniss.
