Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Alexis Sanchez on a season-long loan to Inter Milan.

Alexis Sanchez has left Manchester United to join Inter Milan on a season-long loan.

The forward will represent Nerazurri until 30 June 2020, when he will return to United with two years remaining on his contract.

United confirmed the loan with a tweet from the official club account but did not link the relevant story on their website.

"We can confirm that Alexis Sanchez joins Inter Milan on loan until 30 June 2020. We wish @Alexis_Sanchez the best of luck in Italy," read the tweet.

Unlike his extravagant piano-inspired unveiling at United 20 months ago, Inter Milan kept the announcement muted.

The Serie A side simply posted a close-up picture of the Chilean with the tagline #WelcomeAlexis, accompanied with a link to the article on their club website.

Inter do not have an option or obligation to buy following the loan, and are believed to be paying 60 per cent of the player's £500,000-a-week wages, according to The Athletic.

The deal will see United pay around £6millon of Sanchez's earnings over the next 10 months

Sanchez has not featured in a competitive match this season as he continues to recover from a busy summer in which he helped Chile reach the Copa America semi-finals.

Antonio Conte was surprisingly keen to bring him to San Siro, where he reunites with Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian completed a £73m move from United earlier in the window and is believed to be one of few members of the United squad with whom Sanchez shared a friendship.

Sanchez has scored five goals in 45 appearances for United after completing a shock swap move to Manchester in January 2018.
