And now, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 34-year-old has agreed a two year deal with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.
United failed to bring in a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who made a £74million move to Inter Milan on transfer deadline day.
Despite the likes of Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic being linked with multi-million pound switches to Old Trafford, nothing materialised.
And now the Premier League giants are in for Llorente - along with the likes of Napoli and Lazio.
DE GEA WORRIES
One player the club are hoping signs a deal is one of their current stars - David De Gea.
SunSport exclusively revealed that the Spanish keeper could keep United sweating until January.
The keeper has yet to put pen to paper despite agreeing a £350,000-a-week deal in principle.
the 28- year-old’s new six-year contract is in place but has not been rubber-stamped.
United expect the Spaniard’s signature on the fresh terms and the deal can be announced once it is finalised.
But they are waiting for the green light to confirm their No 1 has committed his future to Old Trafford.
One issue United players have with new contracts is the club policy of reducing wages by 25 per cent if they fail to reach the Champions League.
It means De Gea’s weekly pay would go down to £263,000 if boss Solskjaer fails to get United back into the top four or win the Europa League.
And the future of flop striker Alexis Sanchez is also up in the air, with reports a number of Serie A sides are chasing the Chilean's signature.
