Swindon cut open Scunthorpe

Swindon began their Sky Bet League Two season with an impressive 2-0 win at Scunthorpe following two great moments of counter-attacking football.

Jerry Yates fired the Robins in front in the 59th minute, completing a slick move with a cool finish, before Keshi Anderson made the points safe 11 minutes later, in similar fashion.

Iron midfielder Matthew Lund fired against the post and home goalkeeper Jake Eastwood had to be alert to punch away an awkward free-kick hit by Anderson from 30 yards in the first half.

After the break, just when Scunthorpe looked to be getting into the ascendancy, it was Swindon who broke the deadlock.

With the Iron caught up field attacking a free-kick, the Robins broke quickly and Lloyd Isgrove played in Rotherham loanee Yates, who marked his debut by rounding Eastwood and sliding home.

The home side were still reeling when Swindon cut them open for a second time, in almost identical circumstances, Kaiyne Woolery this time breaking through the middle before playing in Anderson to double his side’s lead.

Scunthorpe had a few chances for a consolation, the best of which was scuffed wide by Alex Gilliead in stoppage time.
