Cod Army conquer Posh on opening day

Peterborough’s proud tradition of winning at home in August curtain-raisers was marred by a 3-1 defeat by Joey Barton’s Fleetwood.
Posh had won their last seven opening day home matches in Sky Bet League One, but early goals from Harry Souttar and Josh Morris, and a late free-kick from Danny Andrew – all summer signings – sealed the win for the Cod Army.
Striker Ivan Toney, who has been linked with a move to the Championship, had made it 2-1.
Central defender Souttar opened the scoring by thumping in a back-post header from a Paul Coutts corner after four minutes before his ball over the top was left to bounce by Mark Beevers, allowing Josh Morris to nip in and lob Christie Pym from 15 yards.
The home side never threatened until substitute Marcus Maddison’s 40-yard free-kick was volleyed in by Toney from eight yards out after 67 minutes.
Andrew’s free-kick nine minutes from the end sealed the points, with Pym only able to palm his 30-yard effort into the net.
