Emmanuel Dieseruvwe scores twice as Salford get off to Football League flyer

Emmanuel Dieseruvwe’s historic double saw Salford beat Stevenage in their first ever Football League match.
May’s Vanarama National League play-off final win against AFC Fylde sealed divisive City’s fourth promotion in five years and a maiden season in the EFL.
Dieseruvwe opened the scoring in that Wembley triumph and was the hero in Salford’s Sky Bet League Two curtain-raiser, with the imposing striker netting the club’s first Football League goals as Stevenage fell to a 2-0 loss.
Paul Scholes was the only member of the Class of 92 ownership in attendance at the Peninsula Stadium, where Adam Rooney saw a volleyed effort tipped onto the cross bar by Paul Farman during a bright start.
Emmanuel Sonupe was aggrieved not to get a penalty when Stevenage belatedly threatened, only for Dieseruvwe to score Salford’s first Football League goal when turning home a cross by Scott Wiseman in the 29th minute.
Dieseruvwe proved a constant thorn in the side and netted again in the 48th minute after a penalty-box melee.
The striker pushed for a hat-trick and Stevenage rarely threatened as Salford’s Football League journey got off to a smooth start.
