Harry Beautyman scored twice as Sutton eased to a 3-1 win at Hartlepool.
The midfielder glanced in a header from Dale Bennett’s pinpoint cross to open the scoring after seven minutes.
Hartlepool responded and Nicke Kabamba saw a 20-yard shot come back off a post, but Sutton doubled their lead after 23 minutes as Beautyman drilled a low shot past Ben Killip following good play from Tom Bolarinwa.
Pools pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time when Gime Toure cut in from the right, beat a defender and drove the ball into the bottom corner.
Young Hartlepool defender Kenton Richardson left the field on a stretcher with 20 minutes remaining and Kabamba screwed a shot wide shortly afterwards.
Jason Kennedy saw an effort blocked by Sutton goalkeeper Jamie Butler in the 78th minute but the visitors sealed the points in stoppage time through Will Randall’s neat finish at the end of a swift counter-attack.
