Forest Green get off to winning start

Forest Green got off to a winning start as substitute Taylor Allen gave his side a 1-0 victory over Oldham in a tepid League Two curtain-raiser.
It took teenager Allen just seven minutes after his introduction to make a stunning impact – rifling into the roof of the net in the 72nd minute.
Earlier, Mark Cooper’s Forest Green suffered a blow from the get-go – former Fulham winger George Williams was on the end of a Zak Mills challenge and hobbled off after two minutes.
Meaty challenges were being administered but referee Neil Hair had finally seen enough and dealt his first yellow to Oldham’s Mohamed Maouche for a dangled leg on Rovers’ Kevin Dawson in the 36th minute.
On the cusp of the break a clearly frustrated Joseph Mills incurred a 42-minute booking for dragging back Mohamed Sylla.
The first meaningful strike of the half came in stoppage time – Joseph Mills firing one over from the edge of the box.
And substitute Allen, on his debut, turned the game, winning it for Rovers with 19 minutes to go with a sumptuous finish beyond Woods.
