PINT OF LAGER Xaver Schlager already dreaming of Arsenal transfer – despite moving to Wolfsburg only last month

The 21-year-old joined the German outfit from Red Bull Salszburg for £13million after he helped the Austrian club win the league for the fourth consecutive season.

Schlager was a key member of the squad last campaign as he chipped in with eight goals and four assists in 44 games in all competitions.

His stellar year earned him a move to Wolfsburg where he has penned a deal until 2023, but the Austrian international has set his sights on making the switch to the Premier League.

Speaking to Kicker, he said: "As a boy in Austria, you already start dreaming of making it abroad at the age of seven.

"The league just isn't that attractive.

"I haven't reached my final goal yet, now the next goal is coming.

"I've been a fan of Arsenal since I was a child.

"That's my dream club, and it's my dream to get to play there."

Schlager could face the Gunners in the Europa League in the upcoming season, with both clubs to enter the competition in the group stages.

Arsenal are expected to be busy in the transfer market in the next two weeks, with Dani Ceballos closing in on a loan deal, while William Saliba's move could be announced on Thursday.

The club are still desperate to snare Kieran Tierney away from Celtic, with an improved bid for Wilfried Zaha also on the horizon.
