While it was not the only factor, Matthijs De Ligt admitted that Cristiano Ronaldo's comments after the Netherlands faced Portugal in June played a part in his decision to join Juventus.
During his presentation as a Juventus player, the Dutch youngster was won over by the Old Lady due to their "real" interest in him.
However, De Ligt also referred back to his country's 1-0 defeat to Ronaldo's Portugal in the final of the UEFA Nations League as a flattering moment.
"At that time, I was thinking of where to go after the summer. I had an idea, but I wanted to decide after the Nations League, have a vacation and then go to a new club," he revealed.
"At that time (of the meeting between Portugal and Holland) I was almost sure, but it was very nice that a player like Cristiano asked me if I wanted to join Juventus," De Ligt mentioned.
