THE Manchester City squad were blocked from flying to China today after an alleged Thomas Cook error.

Pep Guardiola and his squad were set to jet out to Shanghai this evening to begin their pre-season tour.

The Aeronexus private jet was grounded close to Terminal 2 after airline Thomas Cook supposedly made an "administrative error”, MailOnline reports.

A club statement read: "Due to an unforeseen administrative issue beyond the club’s control, which is being resolved, regrettably, we will embark on our pre-season tour a little later than intended.

"We will now travel tomorrow and look forward to taking part in the Premier League Asia Trophy as planned."

A Thomas Cook spokesman told Daily Star Online: “Due to an administrative error with third parties Manchester City’s flight with Aeronexus has had to be delayed a day.

"We are working hard to resolve this issue and the team are due to depart tomorrow.”

City are scheduled to face West Ham in the Premier League Asia Trophy opener at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center on Wednesday, with a 1.30pm kick-off (BST).3

The Premier League champions should then contest the final or play-off at Shanghai’s Hongkou Football Stadium next Saturday.

After that, City head south to take on Hong Kong SAR Premier League champs Kitchee FC on Wednesday, July 24.

City yesterday made contact with Brazilian full back Dani Alves, according to reports.

The 36-year-old recently left PSG before winning the Copa America for Brazil, and is available on a free transfer.

Guardiola is apparently considering taking the star to the Etihad Stadium.

It is understood Guardiola wants cover for Kyle Walker as City seek to defend their Premier League title when the season starts in August.
