MANCHESTER UNITED have pulled out of the race to sign Harry Maguire after being told he will cost them a world record £100m.

United were keen to lure Maguire to Old Trafford and valued the England ace in the region of £60m.

But United bosses were left stunned when Leicester demanded £90m plus £10m more in add-ons for the centre back.

The fee would dwarf the world record £75m fee Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil Van Dijk - and make Maguire the most expensive defender in history.

But United, who are poised to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a deal worth £50m, have no intention of meeting the valuation and will turn their attentions elsewhere.

It remains to be seen if bitter rivals Manchester City are prepared to spend £100m on Maguire.

Maguire cost the Foxes just £17m when he joined them from Hull in 2017 and has gone on to establish himself in the England side.

But Starsport understands Maguire, 26, now fears the Foxes will price him out of a dream move to either Manchester club this summer.

Maguire knows his stock has never been higher and is desperate to leave the King Power Stadium.

United, meanwhile, are set to complete the £45m signing of Crystal Palace ace Wan-Bissaka.

The England U21 right back will undergo a medical in Manchester today before signing a long-term deal worth £100,000-a-week.

United have been chasing the full-back since the end of the season and thrashed out a deal with Palace bosses on Tuesday night.

The fee could rise to £50m depending on appearances and how successful Wan-Bissaka is at Old Trafford.

He becomes United's second summer signing following the arrival of Dan James from Swansea in a £15m deal.

Romelu Lukaku wants to join Inter Milan before United head to Australia on their pre-season tour.

The Belgium striker is keen to secure a £75m switch to the Italian outfit as soon as possible, following talks between his agent and the Serie A outfit earlier this week.
