Muirhead scores winning goal for Ayr

Aaron Muirhead scored the winning goal against his former club to keep Ayr in third and Partick in relegation play-off danger.
Miles Storey had already brought a save from goalkeeper Ross Doohan when Thistle opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Joe Cardle’s pinpoint cross was headed in by a diving Shea Gordon.
Storey fired into the side-netting shortly afterwards and it was all square on the half-hour when Liam Smith turned the ball home at the back post.
The visitors took the lead in the 56th minute. Muirhead powered in a header from a corner just moments after Ayr goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon had kept his side on level terms with a fine double save.
Partick forward Lewis Mansell came agonisingly close to an equaliser when he sent a header against a post with six minutes remaining but Ayr held on.
