Relegated Aldershot finish on a positive with win at Maidstone

Long-range strikes from Matt McClure and Bernard Mensah meant relegated Aldershot ended a torrid National League season on a positive note, winning 2-0 at rock-bottom Maidstone.
In a goalless first half, the Stones looked the more dangerous side and Blair Turgott created two good opportunities that Elliott Romain came close to converting.
But it was Aldershot who took a surprise lead after 56 minutes through McClure’s low strike from 25 yards.
From similar range, Mensah’s superb swerving effort doubled the Shots’ lead after 86 minutes and inflicted a 30th defeat of the season on Maidstone.
The Shots end a miserable campaign in 21st place and will play regional football next season for the first time in 16 years.
