Scunthorpe remain a point clear of danger after being held at home by Blackpool

Scunthorpe’s hopes of pulling clear of the League One relegation zone ended in frustration as they were held to a goalless draw by Blackpool.

Pool made most of the running for the opening hour of a tight encounter at Glanford Park, with the Iron’s Jak Alnwick the busier of the two goalkeepers.

He reacted brilliantly to tip over a rasping effort from Jordan Thompson on the back of a flowing visiting move just before half-time, before showing a strong pair of hands to parry away an effort from the same player when his side failed to fully clear the resulting corner.

After the break, Alnwick was called into action again, this time denying Antony Evans after a great run into the box.

Having been largely on the back foot, Scunthorpe had a real go for the final half hour, but for too long lacked a final ball to complement some tantalising play from winger Adam Hammill.

Kevin van Veen was denied by keeper Christoffer Mafoumbi after getting in behind the Pool defence and Lee Novak was left holding his head in his hands as Mafoumbi brilliantly tipped over his flicked header.
