Portsmouth’s Andy Cannon could make his return against former club Rochdale

Andy Cannon could come back into contention for Portsmouth’s League One clash with his former club Rochdale.

The midfielder has not played for the first team since suffering a thigh injury nearly three months ago but managed 70 minutes of a reserve game on Tuesday and came through unscathed.

Bryn Morris also played in that game having returned to the first-team squad as an unused substitute for last weekend’s victory over Wycombe following a groin problem.

Dion Donohue (groin), Luke McGee (hand) and Viv Solomon-Otabor (calf) are all likely to miss out again.

Rochdale boss Brian Barry-Murphy could stick with the same side that defeated Accrington on Tuesday.

That result continued Dale’s fine form under Barry-Murphy and lifted them out of the relegation zone.

Barry-Murphy selected Jimmy Keohane ahead of Joe Bunney but then replaced Keohane at half-time with Ethan Hamilton.

Zach Clough was an unused substitute as he returned to the matchday squad for the first time in five games after injury and he is pushing for involvement, while Rekeil Pyke (hamstring) is closing in on a return.
