Rotherham United vs Aston Villa - Defensive concerns for both sides as Villa visit Rotherham
Posted Tuesday, April 09, 2019 by PA
Rotherham will check on the fitness of Joe Mattock and Billy Jones ahead of their home game against Aston Villa.
Mattock was a doubt against Nottingham Forest due to illness and had to be withdrawn at half-time on Saturday. However, Millers manager Paul Warne thinks the 28-year-old will be fit to face Villa.
Fellow defender Jones also had to come off with an injury in the second half against Forest and he will be assessed. Should he miss out, Zak Vyner is likely to play.
Kyle Vassell is fit again after groin surgery and Darren Potter (Achilles) is nearing a return for Rotherham, who head into Wednesday’s match in the relegation zone.
Kortney Hause is a doubt for in-form Villa as they look to maintain their play-off challenge.
A hip problem forced Hause off early in the second half of the victory against Sheffield Wednesday and he continues to be monitored.
Fellow defender Alan Hutton has returned to training after more than a month out with an ankle injury and he will be back in contention soon.
James Chester (knee) and Tommy Elphick (foot) remain out for Villa, who have propelled themselves into the top six with six straight wins.
