Neymar, who missed Wednesday's European game at Old Trafford through injury, watched his teammates produce a superb result from his home.

Two second-half goals put PSG in pole position ahead of their second-leg.

Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe both scored for the visitors, and the 20-year-old phenom has called for an end to 'scare stories'.

"We need to stop with the scare stories. People need to stop being afraid," he said. "We showed that tonight. We're good.

"Of course Neymar is hugely important and Cavani is fundamental to us, but football is played on the pitch and we showed that today."

Mbappe added: "French football must go as far as possible in the European Cup. People must support us - we will support Lyon [against Barcelona] next week.

"We are happy, but it's only half-time in the tie and we need to continue preparing well, because I think in the last 20 minutes we dropped off a bit physically."

The French giants resume their league campaign this weekend, with Thomas Tuchel's side entertaining United on March 6th in the return fixture.
