Just family and close friends were invited to the December ceremony in Ludwigshafen, south-western Germany.

The player's agents confirmed German media reports that the former Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg ace and Anna have wed.

Anna has repeatedly posted pictures of herself on social media wearing a ring on her left hand in recent weeks.

However most Germans wear their wedding rings on their right hands - leading to Schurrle's marriage remaining a secret until now.

The winger helped Chelsea win the 2014-15 Premier League title before leaving mid-season to join Wolfsburg.

He is a popular figure at Craven Cottage, and boss Claudio Ranieri's decision to substitute him on Saturday was greeted with boos.

And the 28-year-old has denied reports that he will leave Fulham if they are relegated this season.

He wrote on social media: "Fulham fans please don't believe what this newspaper is writing because it is not even close to what I said.

"Just very bad translating from German out of context and trying to to produce a false headline! Let's stick together and fight until the end."
