Chesterfield rally from three down to earn draw
Posted Sunday, January 06, 2019 by PA
Struggling Chesterfield staged an extraordinary second-half comeback at the Proact Stadium to draw 3-3 with Ebbsfleet.
The hosts were 3-0 down at the break. A penalty from Michael Cheek and strikes from Cody McDonald and Bagasan Graham seemingly left the Spireites with no chance.
But substitute Tom Denton and Marc-Antoine Fortune pulled back goals in the second half to get the home fans’ pulses racing.
Five minutes into added time, defender Will Evans sensationally headed the equaliser, but it was not quite the end of his stunning contribution.
Chesterfield keeper Callum Burton was sent off for tangling with Cheek in the box and Evans, riding the crest of a wave, stood in between the sticks to save Cheek’s penalty and preserve the point.
