High-flying Luton held by Barnsley

Promotion hopefuls Luton and Barnsley started 2019 with a goalless draw at Kenilworth Road.
The visitors should have gone ahead early on, Cauley Woodrow bursting through the middle only to miss the target.
Cameron McGeehan’s effort was easy for James Shea, while visiting stopper Adam Davies made an excellent low save from Alan McCormack’s volley.
Andrew Shinnie sliced wide after being found by James Collins, then saw Davies comfortably collect his next attempt.
After the break, Mamadou Thiam’s blast from distance was well gathered by Shea, as Brad Potts’ snapshot deflected just over, with Thiam sending another attempt narrowly wide.
Danny Hylton’s header was easy for Davies, before he had another effort loop over at the far post when meeting James Justin’s free-kick.
Shinnie’s fierce drive flashed behind, while Elliot Lee’s low strike saw Davies hang on impressively at his near post.
Late on, the visitors almost won it, with Alex Mowatt’s blast missing the target as both side had to make do with a point.
