Carlisle maintained their fine run of form with victory over Morecambe at the Globe Arena.
In an even game, it was two quality strikes from Jamie Devitt and Jack Sowerby that proved the difference for John Sheridan’s side who moved into the Sky Bet League Two play-off places as a result.
Former Morecambe favourite Devitt broke the deadlock with a stunning goal in the 15th minute.
The winger received a Danny Grainger throw in with his back to goal but turned past his man sharply before letting fly with a dipping right-footed volley from 20 yards that hit the underside of the crossbar before beating Mark Halstead.
The Cumbrians went on to look for a quick second with Kevin Etuhu seeing a shot blocked by Steven Old before Morecambe came into the game.
Jordan Cranston curled a free kick just over before testing Adam Collin from a similar set-piece but for all Morecambe’s possession they struggled to get through a resolute Carlisle defence.
The second half saw Morecambe dominate possession with Collin forced into good saves from Rhys Oates and Carlos Mendes-Gomes before the Cumbrians doubled their advantage.
Sowerby collected the ball on the left wing and in similar fashion to Devitt cut inside onto his right foot to unleash an unstoppable shot past Halstead from 20 yards.
Morecambe pushed forward at the death to try and get a consolation, but it was Carlisle who came close to scoring again when Ashley Nadesan dragged a shot inches wide of the right post after a neat one-two with Devitt before Hallam Hope went close with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.
