Bishop the hero for Mansfield at Grimsby

Neal Bishop’s first-half header proved enough to earn Mansfield a 1-0 win in a tight game against in-form Grimsby.
CJ Hamilton forced James McKeown into a good save midway through the first-half after picking up the ball from Tyler Walker’s slicing pass, with the goalkeeper coming off his line quickly to meet him.
From the resultant corner, Bishop picked up some space in the middle of the penalty area and powered his header home to give the visitors the lead after a relatively quiet start.
Walker had a great chance shortly after to double the lead when the ball broke for him inside the box, but with team-mate Mal Benning vying for the same ball, the striker was only able to drag his shot wide.
Grimsby went in search of an equaliser straight after the break, with Elliot Embleton forcing Conrad Logan into a couple of smart saves after cutting inside on his right foot, but it wasn’t meant to be as the hosts’ winning record over the festive period came to an end.
