Accrington’s clash with Sunderland abandoned at 1-1
Posted Sunday, December 09, 2018 by PA
Referee Oliver Langford called off Accrington Stanley’s game with Sunderland in the 75th minute with the score at 1-1 in front of a record crowd.
5,257 packed into the Wham Stadium – helped by 2,604 Sunderland fans – many in the open terrace as the rain came down.
There were several pitch inspections before the game and the heavens opened in the second half.
Sunderland took the lead on 62 minutes when a Connor Ripley goalkick was charged down by Chris Maguire and the ball rolled into the goal.
Stanley equalised on 69 minutes when on-loan Bolton striker Connor Hall forced the ball over the line after a goalmouth scramble – it would have been his first league goal.
As the rain continued to come down, the referee deemed the pitch unplayable.
