Adam Rooney, Dennis Politic and Danny Whitehead got the goals as Salford beat Havant and Waterlooville 3-0 to close the gap on Vanarama National League leaders Leyton Orient to a point.
The home side’s pressure told after 22 minutes when Rooney chested down a long ball from Whitehead and picked his spot before slotting into the bottom left corner.
A minute later Politic, who had come on as a substitute for Liam Nolan after 10 minutes, got his first goal for Salford when his shot went in off the post.
Eight minutes into the second half Havant went close to scoring but substitute Nicke Kabamba fired over from close range before Jonah Ayunga went close with successive efforts.
Five minutes into stoppage time Whitehead smashed in a third when his shot went in off the crossbar.
