Macclesfield pick up second win of the season against Yeovil

Macclesfield gave their sorry season a huge shot in the arm with a 1-0 win at home to Yeovil.

With the game looking a certainty to end goalless, the Silkmen’s Elliott Durrell was sent tumbling by defender Tom James and Michael Rose knocked in the resulting penalty to give Macc only their second league win of the season.

Bottom side Macc had their fair share of chances before the break, some of them sent wide by Durrell, while Danny Whitaker beat keeper Stuart Nelson with a close-range header but Yeovil’s new signing Adel Gafaiti was on hand to clear off the line.

At the other end Kieran O’Hara pushed over James’ long-distance free kick but was otherwise rarely troubled by Yeovil.

The stalemate continued into the second half with O’Hara reacting quickly to get a hand to Alex Pattison’s deflected shot.

Then on 72 minutes, after Durrell burst into the box, came the foul that set up Rose’s winning spot-kick.
