Fejiri Okenabirhie scored twice as Shrewsbury booked their place in the FA Cup second round with a 3-1 replay win against Salford to set up a clash with Scunthorpe.
Okenabirhie’s double and Greg Docherty’s powerful strike sealed victory at the Peninsula Stadium, although Adam Rooney reduced the deficit before the end.
Ammies stopper Chris Neal pushed Oliver Norburn’s 12th-minute effort wide after a slick Shrews move, later showing smart reflexes again to keep out Okenabirhie’s effort.
But Shrewsbury took the lead after Luke Waterfall’s header came back off the post from Norburn’s 33rd-minute corner, with Okenabirhie on hand to slot home.
Josh Laurent nearly doubled Shrewsbury’s lead two minutes from the break after a marvellous curling effort rebounded off the post.
The visitors added their second after the hour when Docherty raced into the area from the right and buried into the roof of the net.
Salford grabbed one back with 13 minutes left as Danny Whitehead’s ball into the box was nodded in by Rooney to give them a glimmer of hope.
But Shrewsbury made sure of their place in round two when Laurent’s stoppage time effort was saved by Neal, with Okenabirhie again on hand to tuck home the rebound.
