Paul Scholes blasts Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as potential talent

United failed to put on a good display against Juventus at Old Trafford, as they struggled to recover after an early strike from Paulo Dybala.

Jose Mourinho might feel his side have taken a step backward following this 1-0 loss, but Scholes feels Martial and Rashford should be delivering better performances now.

"We talk about Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as potential players for the future but they've played over 100 games," he said.

"The future is no good any more, it needs to be now."

United finished the match with 40 per cent possession having mustered just six shots at goal with only two on target.

Scholes conceded the front three trio of Romelu Lukaku, Rashford and Martial, have been improving of late, but feels they are struggling to deliver the goals United need.

"They look like they are beginning to find a bit of form," he told BT Sport.

"When you look around the squad the players are there, the talent is there.

"I talk about the front three all the time and you think of the pace and strength that they have got.

"OK, Romelu Lukaku is probably struggling for a bit of confidence.

"Marcus Rashford is probably struggling for a bit of confidence.

"But you look at them three and think they should be getting 65 goals a season! They need to start producing that now."

Scholes admits he was optimistic following the positive second-half performance against Premier League rivals Chelsea last weekend.

"I don't take much from the Newcastle performance because Newcastle are a poor team," he said.

"But when you go to Chelsea, who are a really good team, and put in a performance like that in the second half, they should have won the game and you do feel a bit of spark coming back."

However, there was no fairytale ending for United tonight.

Jose Mourinho will now have to quickly address the shortcomings, with league fixtures against Everton and Bournemouth before next months return trip to Turin.
